M - 4 (Disruption)

Post for Tuesday, April 21 st (delay due to internet issue) Each day as we inch closer to the Move we experience some highs and lows. Last week the focus was on figuring out how to reinstate our internet. Verizon is not doing in-home appointments. We need a self-service appointment which is when the service person hooks up the cable from the outside to our house and my husband does the rest. Of course, I was very skeptical about “the rest” which I’m sure requires a PhD in cable networking. Our back-up plan was to connect a 75-foot cable to our neighbor’s and “share” the service. Worst case I would drive into Boston and camp out at my office with the kids. Once Ozan started escalating our request from customer service rep to supervisor to dispatcher, I was worried. Verizon is essentially the equivalent of a government agency, so always expect the worst. What’s funny is I see Verizon's CEO, Hans Vesterberg, on T.V. a lot during this covid crisis as Verizon is a big sponsor for

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday felt like Armageddon with wild weather, crashing trees and unresponsive toilet seats. Things improved today with sunny skies and some new, exciting developments with the renovation. Our contractor received his emergency grant, so he's able to keep his employees on the payroll. That means they will come to the house this Thursday and Friday to finish the trims and other odds and ends. The floor guy will come on Saturday instead of Friday now to finish the floors. Fingers crossed, the electricians will wrap up tomorrow. Ozan is now tasked with going to Home Depot tomorrow morning to get new garage door openers. Let's take a bet if he's able to get there before 9 a.m. My mirrored sliding door is scheduled to arrive next week. I got the FedEx tracking number today. Yesterday I ordered my West Elm furniture for the kitchen lounge, and the rug pad has already shipped. I received my order of cloth masks today! I put the bag in a corner of o

Today may go down in history as the most surreal day of all time. Where do I start? Let's begin with the weather. We all knew today would be stormy with rain and gusty winds. Normally I would be concerned since our house is nestled among old, tall pine trees and our neighborhood tends to lose power if you even so much as cough the wrong way. I was more concerned about possible power outages because the electricians were working at the house and we're so desperate to have all essential work complete before the move. Maybe my selfish haste toyed with the weather gods. Everything was running smoothly in our over-priced Wellesley rental up until about 2:30 pm when Ozan got a call and I heard him blurt, "Oh no that's terrible." And then the pit started to grow in my stomach. My gut reaction was, "Covid?"  I heard him say something about a tree and then I checked my texts. My neighbor texted that a large pine tree fell onto the van parked next to our house

If you've been following my blog since the countdown to the Move, you may be familiar with my dealings with UPS. Today a different UPS experience launched me to another level of anger. Let's just say UPS now stands for U People Suck. A Pottery Barn order was set for delivery today. I got the standard email notification about the package's status with an expected delivery for this afternoon. When I didn't get the delivery confirmation notice, I started to investigate. Apparently, UPS made an attempted delivery and did not leave the package because nobody was home at the house. Furious, I logged into UPS determined to figure out a way to change the delivery instructions. And right before my eyes blaring in bright yellow was the answer, "If you would like to make other delivery arrangement, please select Delivery Options." Little did I know this was the beginning of the nightmare . The nefarious Delivery Option link basically was a one way ticket to Hell. Fr

Say what? We've entered into the teens on the countdown to the Move. Where have I been the last few days? Ya know, the same place you all have been - home. The plumber installed the toilets and faucets yesterday. I went to the house after dinner last night just to take a peek at everything and of course, forgot to bring my camera. I was so paranoid about avoiding contact with anything. I forgot my gloves and had to open the front door with a Trader Joe's shopping bag. The dishwasher and washing machine were supposedly done today, but I was not able to visit the house this afternoon. The suspense is real. My new quarantine activity will be watching youtube videos on how to use our new, expensive appliances . Do we use the detergent pods instead of liquid detergent? I heard its best to avoid using the Snuggle-like fabric softeners on the front-loader. The pull-out microwave door is going to be insane. This is a whole new world for us as we've been subjected to using dated a

Today we close out Week #3 of working remotely as social distancing continues. I'm trying hard to distance myself from the news but it's inevitable that some distressing info finds its way to me unannounced. And the culprit? My mom. She forwards me stuff from her friends about "new and more detailed information on how you should be sanitizing " or "best to strip off clothes after coming back from any store" and "your phone is a virus magnet." Vile, murderous cellphone! As information changes daily, it's easy to go bananas wondering if you're doing anything right. I find myself becoming overly self aware of an itch on my face that may be nowhere near my eye or mouth yet I rethink  the last time I washed my hands and make a game day decision if its safe to itch.  And the take out debate continues in our household. To take out, or not to take out, that is the question. And then there's the juxtaposition of tuning back to normal programming

I skipped a few days, and had to rejigger my math. Feeling good at 25 days and counting. What a long month. Yesterday day was pretty rough. I slept until 8 a.m. and stayed in my PJs all day! My diet is suffering being home all day. I keep buying random snacks I normally would never buy. For example, I got these lemon creme sandwich cookies from Market Basket. So today I got back on track both on the diet and exercise front. My bootcamp instructor does Facebook live workouts every morning at 6:30 a.m. and he makes them available to do anytime. So I did yesterday morning's workout during lunch today. I'm still trying to schedule the wallpaper person. We can't have her come by this week as the painters are there all week. Next week she is in Maine for a week long job. I am hoping she can come the week of April 13th  I got the UPS notice today that my Thibaut paper will arrive on Thursday! Happy Day! I also got a box of fabric samples from Rove Concepts . Hooray indeed.
